The Museum of archaeology

Archaeology Museum of Volgograd state University opened in 1986 on the initiative of the first rector of Volgograd state University M. M. Zagorulko, the Dean of the history Department B. F. Zhelezchikov and head of the Department of archaeology A. S. Skripkin.

The archaeological collection of the Museum Fund are collected mainly by students and teachers of historical faculty during numerous expeditions to different parts of the Volgograd region and represents the materials from different historical eras: from the stone age to the epoch of the Golden Horde.

Originally the Museum of archaeology housed in the auditorium 3-23 B. Designed and created the Museum of the archaeological laboratory staff Buda I. S. A. Mezentsev flying Museum would serve as a lecture room. It held classes in historical disciplines.

In 1989 the archaeology Museum was moved to a larger audience And 2-18 and rebuilt under the project of the art Fund. The Museum exposition has replenished with paleontological materials that were prepared by local historian and paleontologist A. A. Yarkov. Since its Foundation, the Museum of archeology was used as a training room to conduct classes, seminars, special courses in archaeology, anthropology, prehistory. Periodically the Museum hosts regional and University conferences, round tables on the archaeology and problems of cultural Genesis of the Volga-don region.

Currently, the Museum of archaeology exists within the faculty of Philosophy, history, international relations and social technologies, Volgograd state University. The Museum has a large public group, composed of officials from the archaeological laboratory, faculty of the Department of archeology and foreign history and students of the faculty who have specialization in the discipline of archaeology. The group helps public activities of the Museum for the preservation and development of exhibits and in scientific and educational work.

On the basis of the Museum is the archaeological club, which is headed by candidate of historical Sciences, associate Professor of the Department of archeology and foreign history, L. V., Yavorsky. The participants in the meetings of the circle are the students of the faculty of history, the staff of the archaeological laboratory and the Department of archeology and foreign history, students of schools. With the scientific lectures on the archaeological club speakers are leading experts of archaeology, anthropology, Ethnology and archeozoology. Archaeological and anthropological exposition give historical and cultural perception of the life of the ancient population of the Lower Volga region, and exhibits are used as visual AIDS.

At present the Museum exposition is created with the current level of Museum work. The Museum funds contain more than 200 units. The picking of the collections of the Museum of archaeology and the replenishment occurs at the expense of archaeological artefacts discovered during rescue archaeological expedition of Volgograd state University.
